Founded in 1998 as the Red-Eyed Tree Frog Company, Inc., The Vivarium Store (TVS) has become a trusted source for specialty products designed for reptile, amphibian, and vivarium enthusiasts. For more than 25 years, our mission has been to provide innovative, high-quality products that help hobbyists and professional breeders create healthy, naturalistic habitats while promoting responsible animal care.
Our founder, Kevin Bechert, has been actively involved in the reptile industry for more than three decades. In addition to developing specialty products for the hobby, he served as a key contributor to the development of the ReptoHabitat® by TetraFauna, one of the first commercially successful vivarium systems in North America. The ReptoHabitat introduced thousands of hobbyists to the concept of creating realistic, functional habitats that more closely reflected an animal's natural environment. Its innovative design helped shape the evolution of modern vivarium keeping and inspired a new generation of naturalistic enclosure designs for reptiles and amphibians.
Today, we continue that same philosophy by offering carefully selected products for reptiles, dart frogs, amphibians, and other vivarium animals. Every product we carry is chosen for its quality, reliability, and proven performance, allowing keepers of all experience levels to build and maintain thriving captive environments.
One of our long-standing specialties is the production of premium cultured fruit flies, including Drosophila melanogaster and Drosophila hydei. These nutritious feeder insects have been trusted by hobbyists, zoological institutions, and professional breeders as an essential food source for dart frogs, small reptiles, amphibians, and other insectivorous species.
Beyond supplying products, The Vivarium Store is committed to advancing the reptile hobby through education. To further that mission, we established Vivarium Publishing, a specialized publishing imprint dedicated to producing educational resources for reptile and amphibian keepers. Additional books covering a variety of reptile, amphibian, and vivarium-related topics are planned and will be released in the near future.
Our first publication under Vivarium Publishing, Chuckwallas: Natural History, Care, and Breeding, is the English adaptation and expanded edition of the acclaimed German work by Günther Köhler and Hannes Zorn. Extensively revised and updated, this edition incorporates current husbandry practices, recent scientific research, and U.S. customary measurements. For the first time, one of the world's most comprehensive references on the genus Sauromalus is available to English-speaking reptile keepers, breeders, and researchers.
